Question 1

Is it a crime to steal packages?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Stealing packages is theft, and taking mail can also be a federal crime. Report it to police.

Question 2

Does homeowners or renters insurance cover stolen packages?

Accepted Answer

Sometimes, but the deductible often makes a claim not worth it. Try the seller and your card first.

Question 3

How do I spot a fake online store?

Accepted Answer

Huge discounts on popular items, a web address that’s slightly off, a brand-new site, no contact information and no reviews from other sources.

Question 4

What should I do if my package was stolen?

Accepted Answer

Contact the seller first, report it to the carrier and police, and dispute the charge with your credit card if needed.

Question 5

Are delivery texts with links safe?

Accepted Answer

Surprise texts about delivery problems are often scams. Check orders only in the official app or site.

Question 6

How can I stop packages from being stolen?

Accepted Answer

Track deliveries, use lockers or store pickup, require signatures for expensive items, or ask a neighbor to bring them in.

Question 7

Why shouldn’t I pay with gift cards?

Accepted Answer

Gift card payments are hard to trace and nearly impossible to get back. Real businesses don’t demand them.

Question 8

How do I check if a charity is real?

Accepted Answer

Look up the charity’s name with words like “complaint” or “scam,” and give directly through its official website, not through unsolicited calls or links.
